In male amphibians, reproductive behaviors are influenced by both steroid hormones and neuropeptides. Testosterone and dihydrotestosterone are necessary for maintaining reproductive behaviors. Vasotocin, prolactin, and luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) each are implicated in activating amphibian behaviors. When amphibians are in harsh environments, corticosterone levels rise and rapidly inhibit reproductive behaviors.
