Acteoside is a phenylpropanoid, reported as a chemical constituent from different plant species, and was isolated as a pure compound on RP‐HPLC from the violet flowers of Syringa vulgaris. On pharmacological evaluation this compound exhibited a dose‐dependent decrease in sytolic, diastolic and mean arterial blood pressure in normotensive pentothal anaesthetized rats. The median effective dose was 10 mg/kg and lasted for 2–3 min, whilst heart rate also decreased.
