Surgical repair successfully treats a ruptured giant AAA in a 110-year-old patient.
Case Report (n=1)
Demonstrates the feasibility of successful surgical repair for a ruptured giant abdominal aortic aneurysm in a 110-year-old patient.
Repair feasible at age 110; leaves open whether extreme age should preclude intervention in ruptured AAA.
Rupture of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) in elderly patients carries a high mortality rate. The decision to operate on a patient more than a hundred ten years of age is contro versial and will depend on many factors. In this case report, the authors describe a successful repair of a ruptured giant (15 cm in diameter) AAA eroding into the vertebral column in a one-hundred-ten-year-old patient. This is likely to be the oldest case reported in the literature with successful outcome.

Shafei et al. (1994) conducted a case report in Ruptured giant abdominal aortic aneurysm (n=1). Surgical repair was evaluated on Successful repair. Surgical repair of a ruptured giant (15 cm) abdominal aortic aneurysm was successfully performed in a 110-year-old patient.
