On the assumption of the existence of a modulus of elasticity independent of temperature, of a relaxation time varying exponentially with temperature, and of an interaction between elastic strain energy and activation energy, a generalized expression is derived for the relation between velocity gradient D and shearing stress S as follows: S = D . GA exp[(S0 - S)2V/2GRT] It is shown that this equation is capable of representing the main types of viscous and plastic flow.
