Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli and Enterobacter aerogenes are members of Enterobacteriaceae family. These bacteria are the important entroinfectious agents for diseases such as diarrhea. This study investigated the antibacterial effects of extracts obtained from fruit and seed of Cydonia oblonga Miller on mentioned bacteria. Quince fruit and seeds extracts (ethanolic, acetonic and aquatic) were used in this study. Antimicrobial activity of prepared extracts determined by well diffusion agar method, later Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) for E.coli, K.pneumoniae and E.aerogenes determined by macrodilution method. Then effective extracts examined in animal model, in BALB/ c mice. The main aromatic compounds of extracts detected by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GCMS). The results showed significant differences between treated groups in comparison with control group. Ethanolic extract of seeds in this study was the most effective. E.coli was the most sensitive bacterium to the extracts, and aqueous extract only showed antimicrobial effect on E.aerogenes. This study showed that the extracts of Quince can be useful in controlling of Enterobacteriaceae infections.
