Subtotal resection plus chemoradiotherapy improves paresis and 12-month disease-free survival in an intradural Ewing's sarcoma case.
Why the study?
Ewing's sarcoma rarely originates extraskeletally around the spinal column, with the intradural extramedullary type being extremely rare.
Case Report (n=1)
No
Primary intradural extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma is extremely rare but can be managed with surgical resection followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Ewing's sarcoma usually arises from skeletal bone, but rarely may have an extraskeletal origin. However, Ewing's sarcoma that originates around the spinal column, especially, the intradural extramedullary type is extremely rare. We report a rare case of primary intraspinal extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma.

Kim et al. (2009) conducted a case report in Primary intradural extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma (n=1). Subtotal resection, multiagent chemotherapy (Etoposide and Ifosfamide), and radiotherapy was evaluated on Clinical outcome (paresis improvement and disease-free survival). Subtotal resection followed by multiagent chemotherapy and radiotherapy resulted in improved upper extremity paresis and disease-free survival at 12 months in a patient with a rare primary intradural extraskeletal Ewing's sarcoma.
