Experimental investigation demonstrates error control in tunable-barrier single-electron pumps via dynamic gate modulation, indicating a pathway toward high-precision quantized current standards.
Single-electron pumps realized by quantum dots with tunable barriers are the most promising candidates for the direct realization of a quantized current. The current understanding of residual errors is based on the evaluation of unwanted back-tunneling of electrons to the source. Here, a control scheme for these errors is introduced by varying the ratios of the time dependence of barrier and quantum dot energy. This validates the current understanding of single-electron pumps and shows a path to improved accuracy.
