The optical absorption spectra of Cs 8 , Cs 10 O and Na 8 are calculated using a shell model to describe the delocalized electrons, and the random-phase approximation to calculate the collective response of the system to light. Landau splitting of the surface plasmon can be strongly enhanced as a result of perturbative corrections to the jellium mean field, and plays an important role in accounting for the double-line profile of the photoabsorption cross-sections, especially in the case of Cs 8 and Cs 10 O.
