Purpose The purpose of this paper is to describe a new local interlibrary loan (ILL) system between universities in Beijing, China. Design/methodology/approach The paper provides a descriptive analysis of the BALIS ILL system. Findings The paper finds that BALIS ILL has developed rapidly in the past two years but there are still some problems to solve. Originality/value This paper will be relevant to librarians interested in resource sharing in China.
