Computational modeling demonstrates a topology optimization framework for body-fitted TPMS structures, indicating improved mechanical evaluation in irregular domains.
This research introduces a topology optimization framework integrating P-type Network TPMS structures within irregular body-fitted design domains. Then, based on voxel modeling and the divergence theorem, the Marching Cube algorithm is employed to govern the morphology and volume fraction of the TPMS cells characterized through the use of implicit functions. To mitigate the challenges of imprecise mechanical property characterization and the computational inefficiencies associated with irregular hexagonal cells, the work employs generalized periodic homogenization theory and coordinate mapping techniques for mechanical property computation. Topology optimization model incorporates three various filters and body-fitted hexahedral meshes to ensure compatibility with the TPMS cells. A hybrid partial derivative method is adopted to address the sensitivity analysis within the context of a discontinuous design domain. Numerical examples illustrate the proposed methodology.
