Cognitive ergonomics in mobile health facilitates autonomic recovery and slows stress-induced premature aging.
Optimizing cognitive ergonomics in digital health interfaces may act as a physiological intervention to mitigate stress-induced biological aging.
May support ergonomic mHealth redesign to aid autonomic recovery; extends Cognitive Load Theory into epigenetic aging pathways.
Chronic psychosocial stress acts as a potent accelerator of biological aging, while wearable telematics and digital health applications offer continuous physiological monitoring to counteract systemic wear-and-tear. However, poorly designed digital interfaces frequently impose high extraneous cognitive load, precipitating techno-stress and exacerbating neuroendocrine arousal. This scoping review synthesizes clinical, molecular, and human-factors evidence across major databases from 2004 to 2026 adhering to the PRISMA-ScR framework to delineate stress-induced biological degradation and evaluate cognitive ergonomics as an active physiological intervention. Sustained psychosocial distress accelerates cellular decline through hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis dysregulation, accelerated telomere attrition, systemic inflammaging, and elevated epigenetic clocks (GrimAge and DunedinPACE). Although multi-modal sensor fusion capturing heart rate variability and electrodermal activity achieves near-perfect stress classification accuracy, counter-ergonomic health software frequently triggers sympathetic hyperactivation. Grounded in Cognitive Load Theory and the SHELL framework, eliminating extraneous mental operators and fostering human-machine interface fluency prevents digital burnout, facilitates autonomic nervous system recovery, and preserves cellular integrity. Consequently, cognitive ergonomics in mobile health constitutes an active biological intervention essential for promoting physiological resilience and slowing premature aging.

Overchuk et al. (2026) conducted a review in Chronic psychosocial stress and biological aging. Cognitive ergonomics and wearable telematics was evaluated. Cognitive ergonomics in mobile health acts as an active biological intervention to prevent digital burnout, facilitate autonomic nervous system recovery, and slow stress-induced premature aging.
