The Invisible Road: A Story of the NumberScape explores an infinite family of Pythagorean triangles whose integer legs differ by exactly one. Through story and mathematical exposition, Carol encounters an impossible road—the line on which the two legs of a right triangle would be equal—and discovers an endless procession of integer Pythagorean triangles approaching that road without ever reaching it. The accompanying Illuminations develop the mathematics behind the story through the TriScape, Euclidean parametrization, Pell-type recurrences, and rational approximations to 1 + √2. The work continues the WidiVision approach of using alternative representations and imaginative framing to make familiar mathematical structures newly visible. It also reflects on a broader question suggested by the mathematics: how something unattainable can nevertheless reveal direction, relationship, and structure among things that are attainable.
