Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluate Vitamin D (VD) status and its asso-ciation with disease severity in critically ill pediatric patients. Methods: An observational follow-up study was conducted on a prospective cohort of pe-diatric patients admitted to the intensive care units (ICU) of two health institutions. All admitted patients underwent measurement of 25-OH-VD, which were categorized as defi-ciency, insufficiency, or normal. The outcome variables were mechanical ventilation, the need for inotropes, renal replacement therapy, and mortality. Results: One-hundred seventy-five pediatric patients were followed up. The mean VD was (25.43 mg/dl, SD = 10.17). The prevalence of deficiency was 26.29 % (n= 46), and for insuf-ficiency, 48 %. Patients with VD deficiency (adjusted RR 2.07 CI95 1.12 – 3.82) had a higher risk of requiring inotropes. 746Vitamin D Status and Disease Severity in Critically Ill Pediatric PatientsDerly Gómez Sandoval, Iván José Ardila-Gómez, Darling Carvajal-Duque, Pilar Pérez-López, Jorge Andres Ramos-CastanedaVol. 40(3), 2024, 744-758Barranquilla (Col.)
