Key result
H-FABP levels are ~6-fold higher in acute PE vs controls and correlate with mortality risk.
Why the study?
The prognostic value of heart type fatty acid binding protein (H-FABP) in pulmonary thromboembolism and its role in guiding thrombolytic therapy was investigated.
Does H-FABP have prognostic value in patients with acute pulmonary thromboembolism?
Observational (n=88)

Does H-FABP have prognostic value in patients with acute pulmonary thromboembolism?
The study aims to evaluate the prognostic value of H-FABP in acute pulmonary thromboembolism, though results are not provided in the truncated abstract.

H-FABP may aid early PTE risk stratification; leaves open its utility for thrombolysis decisions pending larger prospective studies.
Introduction: To investigate factors which could possibly be prognostic, to decide on thrombolytic therapy as soon as possible, and to determine the prognostic value of H-FABP, which is a new marker, in pulmonary thromboembolism. Material and Method: In our study, a patient group, consisting of 58 patients diagnosed with PTE and a control group of 30 healthy individuals were investigated. According to their risk of mortality, patients were analyzed in three groups: high, moderate and low. The moderate mortality risk groups were categorized into two groups according to PAP and patients with PAP≥45 mmHg were “Group 1” and PAP

ALTUĞ et al. (2022) conducted an observational in Acute pulmonary thromboembolism (n=88). H-FABP levels vs. Healthy controls was evaluated on H-FABP level (p=<0.001). H-FABP levels were significantly higher in patients with acute pulmonary thromboembolism compared to healthy controls (3203.1 vs 507.6 pg/ml, p<0.001) and correlated with mortality risk.
