The shear strain concentrated in glide bands in Fe–3% Si single crystals after deformation in tension was determined and the effect of strain-rate changes examined. The shear strain concentrated in glide bands depends on the deformation temperature, strain rate, and crystal orientation. The observed variation suggests that the strain in the glide bands is controlled by elastic interaction between mobile screw dislocations. During strain-rate changes both the velocity of screw dislocations and the internal stress are altered.
