A novel macrocyclic organometallic, trans-dichloro(7-methyl-3,7,11-triazabicyclo[11.3.1]heptadeca-1(17),13,15-trien-17-yl)rhodium(III)–acetone(1/1), has been prepared from RhCl3·3H2O and the corresponding macrocyclic triamine in refluxing 2-methoxyethanol. X-Ray structural analysis shows that the crystals are monoclinic, space group P21/c, with a= 9.494(1), b= 20.480(4), c= 19.541(3)Å, β= 113.75(1)°, Z= 8 and R= 0.054 for 5999 observed reflections. The complex has trans chloride ligands, and the metallated macrocyclic triamine serves as a CN3-type quadridentate ligand. The Rh–C(17) bond is the shortest rhodium(III)-aryl bond so far reported.
