The fluid catalytic cracking process is key in the more intense treatment of raw oils. At the beginning of the 1990s the new extra large pore, zeotype material MCM-41 was developed, thus, resulting in the possibility of cracking of heavier oil fractions. The authors present the catalytic behavior of micro- and mesoporous solid acids in industrially relevant composite systems containing zeolite Y, MCM-41, and active SiO2/Al2O3 matrix on cracking of vacuum gas oil.
