A theoretical equation for determining the sorption of cationic dyes by acrylic fibres, based on a simple Donnan approach and on the assumption that there were two different types of anionic sites with different dissociation constants, has been used to review some data of the literature. The results obtained confirmed that the simple Donnan approach could explain the dyeing mechanism of acrylic fibres with cationic dyes.
