Picric acid and flavianic acid have been tested as reagents for the determination of thioridazine, levomepromazine and perazine. The acids react in neutral medium with phenothiazines forming orange or brown crystalline compounds which can be quantitatively extracted into benzene. This property has been successfully used in the extractive spectrophotometric determination of phenothiazines. The methods were applied to the determination of thioridazine and perazine in their pharmaceutical preparations.
