A study was undertaken in an area east of Berkeley, California, to attempt to determine if a recognizable relation exists between landslide occurrence and slope exposure. Seventy per cent of the landslides observed were found to occur on slopes with northerly and easterly orientation. It is suggested that in the area under consideration exposure plays an important role in determining on which slopes landslides are most likely to occur.
