Classical trajectory Monte Carlo calculations have been performed for charge exchange from orientated elliptical Rydberg states into singly charged ions. The results show a strong dependence on the eccentricity of the elliptical state, and are in agreement with the experimental data of Ehrenreich et al. (1995). Strong propensity for charge exchange has been found for spatial as well as velocity matching of the ion with the captured electron.
