We discuss here the problems of scattering of acoustic, electromagnetic, and elastic SH plane waves by a penetrable elliptic cylinder embedded in an infinite medium of different properties. Following usual Green’s function approach, the solution of each problem is reduced to that of two simultaneous Fredholm integral equations of the first kind which are solved when the wave lengths in the two media are large as compared with the distance between the two foci of elliptical coordinate systems. Approximate expressions for the external and internal fields, the farfield scattering amplitude, and the scattering cross section of the elliptic cylinder are derived.
