School psychologists are increasingly recognizing the importance of primary preventions for healthy children and of secondary prevention focusing on “at risk” children who manifest minor problems and who are likely to develop more serious difficulties given particular characteristics and circumstances. This article describes the principles of rational-emotive education (REE), an emotional education program based on rational-emotive therapy which has been shown to be effective with school-age children who present a variety of problems. This article discusses the role of the school psychologist in introducing REE to teachers interested in employing mental health prevention programs.
