The Herman infrared bands of nitrogen have been recorded in rotationally cold emission from a supersonic jet discharge. The rotational analysis confirms their assignment to the transition C″ 5Πu→A′ 5Σ+g. Rotational constants have been derived for the lower state, as well as term values for the lowest rotational levels of the upper state.
