When enzymatic soy or casein hydrolysate was the source of amino nitrogen in the diet, females of Rhagoletis pomonella (Walsh) laid a maximum of 507 and 422 eggs respectively. The average number per female was 120 and 109. Some females did not lay eggs, although mature eggs were present in the ovaries. The hatchability varied from 22 to 97%. In general, those females that mated most frequently laid the most fertile eggs.
