A reinvestigation of Selaginella species from the Asturian (Westphalian D) of the Zwickau coalfield, Germany and their assignment to the new sub-genus Hexaphyllum

Specimens of herbaceous lycophytes from the Zwickau coalfield are redescribed, together with new epidermal details. They are assigned to Selaginella gutbieri (Goppert), S. stachygynandroiodes (Geinitz) and S. zeilleri (Halle) and new diagnoses given. The recognition of a third double rank of small ventral leaves leads the case for including them in a new sub-genus of the extant genus Selaginella Beauvoir named and diagnosed here as Hexaphyllum. Kurzfassung: Funde krautiger Lycophyten aus dem Zwickauer Karbon werden zuzuglich neuer blattanatomi- scher Merkmale neu beschrieben. Sie werden zu Selaginella gutbieri (Goppert), S. stachygynandroiodes (Gei- nitz) und S. zeilleri (Halle) gestellt, wofur neue Diagnosen gegeben werden. Die Entdeckung einer dritten Dop- pelreihe kleiner ventraler Blattchen begrundet die Einfuhrung eines neuen Subgenus innerhalb der Gattung Se- laginella Beauvoir, welches hier als Hexaphyllum eingefuhrt wird.
