Theoretical analysis reveals electron-ion plasma as a classical thermoelectric medium, highlighting unstudied mechanisms of thermal-to-electrical energy conversion in astrophysical contexts.
Plasma is a widespread state of matter in the Universe. Kinetic phenomena, electrical, magnetic, and magnetohydrodynamic phenomena in electron–ion plasma are widely studied in connection with the physics of the Sun and stars, as well as with the problem of controlled thermonuclear fusion, however, thermoelectric phenomena in plasma, as a mechanism for energy conversion, have been practically not studied. Meanwhile, plasma is, to a certain extent, a classical thermoelectric medium, the consideration of which allows us to understand the processes of thermoelectric energy conversion and their manifestation in the surrounding world better.
