Threaded Dielectric Resonator Antenna With Flexible Assembly and Wideband Frequency Reconfigurability

In this letter, a new design of threaded dielectric resonator antenna (TDRA) with thread-engaged dielectric resonator (DR) integration is presented. The assembly strategy facilitates flexible assembly and benefits wideband frequency reconfigurability of the TDRA, while avoiding the alignment problem successfully. Aided by tools such as screwdrivers, the position of the DR within the substrate can be precisely adjusted. The analytical expression for the resonant frequency of the TDRA is provided. Taking advantage of the mechanical tuning scheme, the proposed design achieves a frequency tuning range of 31.6% (3.74 to 5.13 GHz), with radiation efficiency of more than 88%.
