Using ethanol maceration, bioactive components were isolated from Dendrocalamus sericeus leaves (D.S. Munro), and their antibacterial and antioxidant properties were assessed. The extract exhibited notable total phenolic (54.870 ± 0.007 µg GAE/mg) and total flavonoid (123.457 ± 12.346 µg QE/mg) contents. It also served as both a capping and reducing agent for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). The synthesized AgNPs possessed a face-centered cubic (FCC) structure and were spherical shape with an average crystalline size around 10-14 nm. The antibacterial efficiency of the AgNPs was examined by staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli), using penicillin as a positive control. The obtained inhibition zone values were determined by 7.2 ± 0.28 mm for E. coli and 6.35 ± 0.49 mm for S. aureus. This study proposed that the bamboo extract have significant antibacterial and antioxidant properties, and efficient stabilizing and reducing agent for synthesis of AgNPs, thus enhanced antibacterial potential for biomedical applications.
