Garnrnaruslawrencianus is classed as a genuine brackish-water species on the basis of the survival of juveniles, developing eggs and of reproducing adult females. This 1s consistent with its estuarine distribution in the northwestern Atlantic. At low salinities G. lawrencianus produced larger and fewer eggs but a total brood volume equivalent to that produced at higher salinities.Young hatched from the larger eggs at low salinities equalled in length those hatched from smaller eggs produced at higher salinities.
