“The single-port robotic system allowed us to further regionalize surgeries and avoid the intraperitoneal space. With the addition of low anterior access, we can spare upper abdominal muscles, improve cosmesis and decrease postoperative pain, creating a better perioperative and postoperative experience for our patients.”
“The novel HyperQure system takes a different approach. This procedure is performed extravascularly, typically laparoscopic robotic-assisted procedure and is designed for precise circumferential electrode contact from the outside of the artery.”
May facilitate bilateral robotic RDN in complex anatomy; leaves open efficacy versus intravascular methods in resistant hypertension.
Renal artery denervation (RDN) is an emerging therapy for patients with treatment-resistant hypertension (trHTN), defined as uncontrolled blood pressure (BP) despite taking optimal dosages of three antihypertensive agents, including a diuretic. Currently, RDN is FDA-approved solely as an intravascular catheter-based procedure. While beneficial, this approach has limitations, including the risk of intimal injury, limited energy penetration, and anatomical constraints in accessory or early-branching renal arteries. The investigational laparoscopic HyperQure™ RDN System addresses these limitations by delivering circumferential bipolar radiofrequency energy independent of vessel anatomy. We describe two novel approaches for the bilateral single-port (SP) robotic retroperitoneal RND in trHTN: the low anterior approach (LAA) and the flank approach.

Deh et al. (2026) studied Treatment-resistant hypertension. Bilateral single-port robotic retroperitoneal renal artery denervation was evaluated. Two novel approaches, the low anterior approach and the flank approach, are described for bilateral single-port robotic retroperitoneal renal artery denervation in treatment-resistant hypertension.
