The authors determine the self-inductance of a non-ferromagnetic metallic ring (of order 10 -8 H) to an accuracy of about 10%. The method is based on measuring the phase difference between induced EMF and induced current in the ring when the ring is exposed to an alternating magnetic flux. Both the theory and measurement are sufficiently simple for A-level laboratory-other methods generally fail for such low values of inductance.
