Study on the effects of micro size ceramic particulates (SiC, Al 2 O 3 and cenosphere) on mechanical, friction and sliding wear behaviour of aluminium matrix composites under dry sliding condition

In this work, mechanical properties, frictional wear and seizure of particulate filled aluminium matrix composites have been investigated. Three different particulate fillers taken for this study are SiC, Al 2 O 3 and cenosphere. Percentage reinforcement is also varied from 8 to 16 wt.%. Other factors such as normal load and sliding speed are also considered. It is observed that SiC reinforced composites show better wear resistance and seizure resistance than Al 2 O 3 and cenosphere reinforced composites. The results also showed that cenosphere particulate composites exhibit better seizure resistance than Al 2 O 3 reinforced composites. Regression and artificial neural network are used to develop a model to predict the wear loss.
