Chrysosphaera magna sp. nov. (Chrysophyceae) is described from cultured material. It differs from existing members of the genus by the much larger numbers of zoospores produced, and by the sporangia taking the form of large spherical colonies of cells, each potentially a zoospore, surrounded by a common mucilaginous envelope. Examination by light and electron microscopy shows features common to other members of its class.
