Trapping in mitochondria: A ratiometric fluorescent sensor for the detection of mitochondrial Zn2+ was synthesised and evaluated on the basis of inhibition of resonance. The sensor, with good selectivity and high sensitivity, can quantify the free Zn2+ level in mitochondria, and can be used to visualise the mitochondrial Zn2+ change in living cells (see figure).
