19F MAS NMR of fluoride-ion conductors is shown to be an effective method for probing the mechanisms of anion motion at a local level. The three fluoride-ion sites in the superionic conductor LaF3 and its anion-deficient solid solution La1.99Sr0.01F2.99 all have different dynamic behavior. The three sites are resolved in the 19F spectra, allowing motion between and in each of the sublattices to be observed directly.
