Field studies were conducted in south Mississippi during 1969 to determine if foraging territories existed in association with mounds of Solenopsis saevissima richteri Forel (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) and to determine the amount of association between adjacent colonies. Results of these studies show that definite foraging territories do exist and that they are easily defined. There is little movement or communication between imported fire ants of adjacent colonies, and each colony operates as an isolated unit.
