The initial translational energies of negative ion fragments arising from dissociative electron attachment have been measured over the resonance curve using a time‐of‐flight technique in combination with mass analysis in a quadrupole mass filter. This yields information on the distribution of the excess energy when the negative molecular ion formed on electron attachment decomposes. Experimental results are presented showing that this technique is a useful method to determine more accurately thermochemical parameters of the decomposition products involved in dissociative electron attachment processes.
