The flow of an incompressible, viscous, electrically conductingfluid past a sphere in an external magnetic field is investigatedat large interaction parameters 0≤ N ≤ 30 for the Reynoldsnumbers 25 and 40. The interaction parameter N can bewritten as M2 /2, where M is the Hartmann number. Theseparation at rear stagnation point of the sphere for the Reynoldsnumber 25 is completely inhibited by the magnetic field when N = 0.3. This separation reappears when N ≈ 5 increases inthe range 5 ≤ N ≤ 30. Similar behavior is also found forthe Reynolds number 40. A nonmonotonic behavior in separationangle is found when N >1. For higher values of N , the pressuredrag coefficient, total drag coefficient, and pressure at rearstagnation point vary with N . The upstream basepressure increases while the downstream base pressure decreaseswith the increase of N . The features found in this work are inaccordance with those of experimental findings.
