Cryptococcosis is the third most commonly occurring invasive fungal infection (after invasive candidiasis and aspergillosis) in solid organ transplant (SOT) recipients. Approximately 8% of the invasive fungal infections in SOT recipients currently are due to cryptococcosis (1). The overall incidence of cryptococcal disease in SOT recipients is ~2.8% and ranges from 0.3 to 5% (2). Cryptococcosis is typically a late-occurring infection; the median time to onset usually ranges from 16 to 21 months posttransplantation (1–3).
