It is difficult for a cellulose paper with intrinsic high flammability to acquire high fire retardancy. Benefitting from the successful preparation of ultralong hydroxyapatite (HAP) nanowires, noncombustible and highly fire-retardant papers were developed. Herein, we report a highly smooth and glossy fire-retardant paper with ultrahigh smoothness and high glossiness consisting of ultralong HAP nanowires, cellulose fibers, and an inorganic adhesive. The physical properties of the highly smooth and glossy fire-retardant paper are investigated. We demonstrate that ultralong HAP nanowires can enhance the fire-retardant performance, smoothness, and glossiness of the cellulose fiber paper. The tensile strength, smoothness, and oxygen index of the highly smooth and glossy fire-retardant paper with 80 wt % ultralong HAP nanowires are 22.9 MPa, 1250 s, and 99.4%, respectively, indicating that the highly smooth and glossy fire-retardant paper has superior properties over the cellulose fiber paper and shows a good application prospect in various fields.
