Body temperature was investigated in 15 consecutive patients with hypoglycemia and in 20 patients with coma or stupor of diverse etiology. Hypothermia, defined as a rectal temperature of 96 F (35.6 C) or less, was observed in eight instances among the hypoglycemic group (53%) and in only one of the control subjects, a highly significant difference (P < 0.01). Hypothermia was found in all five hypoglycemic patients examined between 5 AM and noon.
