No information is available on the emergence patterns of the Simuliidae in Australia. Therefore, during studies on this group carried out near Brisbane, Queensland, data on diurnal emergence were obtained for Austrosimulium bancrofti Mackerras & Mackerras and Simulium ornatipes Skuse. S. ornatipes breeds in small streams and temporary trickles, while A. bancrofti breeds in larger streams and rivers.
