A new extrusion device is described for time‐efficient sectioning of high quality cores of soft‐bottom lake sediments, in particular piston cores and core samples that include the undisturbed sediment‐water interface. The instrument is lightweight, versatile, and easy to operate in the field while maintaining maximum accuracy in sectioning a sediment profile in predefined increments.
