An ABABA single‐case programme was devised to establish selected hand signs in a severely aphasic‐limb‐apraxic patient of 20 months post‐onset. Although no change was observed on clinical tests of aphasia and limb apraxia, objective repeated measures showed that the programme was successful in teaching a range of pantomimes and gestures and in improving facilitation of single‐word and gestural responses. The implications of the results are discussed.
