It is suggested to use transparent conducting coatings based on fullerenes and carbon nanotubes for increasing the response speed in liquid crystal (LC) structures at an acceptable contrast. Using the proposed coatings, the orientation of LC molecules at a solid-mesophase interface is improved (without using special aligning layers); the supply voltage is reduced; and the transparency of the system, the resistance to laser radiation (laser strength), and the coating homogeneity are increased compared to the traditional indium tin oxide (ITO) systems. The possibility of using the obtained results in display elements of the new generation is discussed. The new data can be useful in the development of spatiotemporal light modulators for complex laser setups, where high laser strength is among the main requirements.
