The suborder Anthropoidea, also called simians or simiiforms, contains New and Old World monkeys, apes, and humans. The recent discovery of early primate remains has led to the production of an enormous literature on these fossils and an increased interest in the study of anthropoid origins. Research on these early anthropoids allows a better understanding of the early evolutionary history of the group of mammals from which we evolved.
