With a simple non-parametric statistical test it is shown that the karyotypes of many mammalian species are non-randomly organized. If the chromosomes of a karyotype are ordered according to length the acrocentric and telocentric chromosomes occur more frequently next to other aero- and telocentric chromosomes, than would be the case if there were no correspondance between chromosome length and shape within the karyotype.
