Coal gangue is a solid waste produced during the process of coal mining and washing. To effectively utilize coal gangue and reduce the damage to the natural environment, the feasibility of using coal gangue in road base was researched. The physical and chemical experiments of coal gangue in Huaibei area were carried out. The results showed that coal gangue could meet the relevant requirements of specifications and was able to be used in road base. According to the compaction test and unconfined compressive strength test, the mixture ratio design method of cement stabilized macadam-gangue has been determined, which was 25%-30% 1# crushed stone, 16%-18% stone powder, 43%-47% coal gangue, and 2# crushed stone. Based on this mix design method, a series of performance tests of cement stabilized macadam-coal gangue were conducted. The results of compression test, compression rebound modulus test, splitting strength test and splitting rebound modulus test demonstrated that the strength and the modulus is great. Besides, mixtures with Gradation 7 performed better than that with Gradation 5. The cement stabilized macadam-gangue can be used in road base and Gradation 7 is recommended.
