HYSCORE with a vanadium core: Examples of monomeric metal compounds containing the cis-[M(O)(OH)]n+ unit, namely the VIVO2+ complexes [VIVO(OH)(bipy)2]BF4 (1; see picture) and [VIVO(OH)(phen)2]BF4⋅H2O (2⋅H2O), were isolated and structurally characterized. The continuous wave EPR and 2D ESEEM (HYSCORE; hyperfine sublevel correlation) spectroscopy parameters obtained for 1 and 2⋅H2O provide spectroscopic signatures that enable the assignment of the cis-[VIVO(OH)]+ center in biomolecules.
